Mt. Kang Rimpoche or Mt. Kailash (6714m.) is situated in the Tibet province of China. The mountain is part of the great Himalayan range and is considered a source of water for four biggest rivers of Asia: Yarlung Tsangpo, Karnali, Indus and Sutlej River. The peak which has never been climbed is a composite of snow and rock and has unique four faces at the top.
Located between Mt. Kangri and Mt. Gurla Mandata (7728m.) is the lake of Mapum Yumtso, or popularly known as Manasarovar, at an altitude of 4590m. The lake is spread in an area of 320 sq. km. and has a measured depth of 90m. The lake supports a rich biological diversity that includes rare plants, fishes, mammals and birds.
Both Kang (Kailash) and Mapum (Manasarovar) hold special religious significance among the followers of Bon, Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. For Bon followers, Kang Rimpoche is a pillar of universe and a sacred place where Guru Rimpoche is said to have attained enlightenment. Buddhists believe Kang Rimpoche as the meditating seat of Buddha. Likewise Hindus consider Kailash as the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati while Jain believe their first saint, Rishabha hanatha, achieved liberation/freedom after meditating atop the mountain.
Every year thousands of pilgrims as well as tourists visit Tibet to observe these two natural landmarks on the highest place on earth. To catch a glimpse of Kailash and Manasarovar allows the devotees to attain Mokshya or liberation and purge one of all sins. Hindus further believe that dipping in the Manasarovar Lake (Mapam Yumtso) provides a sure path to heaven.
Tibetan Buddhists has an age old practice of making a Kora (circling) of Mt. Kang Rimpoche by prostrating, as an act of penance and ultimate sacrifice to achieve enlightenment. For booking our Kailash tour, please contact Monterosa Treks & Expedition. We are always here to serve you.

Different religious groups like Shaiba, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Bon-Po are respecting Kailash equally, though they explained it differently. In the Shaiba and Buddhist traditional literature, Kailash is described as the part of Sumeru which is supposed to be the center of the world. It is believed to be the residence of Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati as per Hindus. Buddhist respects it in the name of Kang Rimpoche. Buddhists have accepted Kailash and Manasarovar as great natural Mandala. Mandala for them is the means of respect and salvation. Jain worship as Aspada for this isolated peak. The founding father of this religion Rishavadev had got spiritual salvation in the same place.
There are various logics to claim this Parbat as sacred. This isolated Parbat is also source to big rivers like, Yarlung Jambo, Brahmaputra, Satlaj, Indus and Karnali. The total periphery of Mount Kailash is 53 km and pilgrims should walk 38 km within 3 days and if add Charan Sparsh (Touch Kailash) tour than it will be 4 days kora. As described in Hindu myth, a person who moves around the Kailash Parbat will be free from all the sins made in life time. If they move round the Parbat for 108 times, they directly get Nirvana. It is also said that a person who moves Nandi once, he/she gets return as equal of moving round the Kailash for 13 times.

River Ganges, originated from Mount Kailash meets Lachhu River and gets mixed into Rakshas Lake. Every river formed from Kailash Himalayan Ranges gets mixed into Rakshas Lake.
