Tibet has become a world famous pilgrimage destination as it is home to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. Kailash Parvat (6714m), which is considered to be the sacred abode of the gods and goddesses and the exact center of the Universe, is the holiest mountain for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bonpos. It is also famous for its unique four-faced shape like that of a handle of a millstone. Tibetan locals refer this peak as Kang Rimpoche (literally meaning 'a sparkling mass of snow').
In ancient Hindu scriptures, Mount Kailash is referred to as Mt. Meru that has been described as a mountain, lying in the Himalayan range, with its four faces made of four different jewels (gold, crystal, ruby and lapis lazuli), where gods resided and from where four great rivers namely The Brahmaputra, The Karnali, The Indus and The Sutlej originated. Every year, thousands of devotees come to visit this holy peak and perform religious circumambulation called Kailash Kora with the belief of obtaining ultimate Salvation.
15 meters below the holy Kailash Parbat, the most sacred Lake of Hindus Mansarovar is situated. Literally, the meaning of this Lake is Consciousness of Mind. Buddhists believe that Lord Gautama Buddha obtained Enlightenment meditating on the bank of this pond so this Lake is termed as Lake of Consciousness. Not only to Buddhists Mansarovar is equally important to Hindus as the bathing pond of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Despite of the large circumference of this Lake, huge numbers of devotees come to circumambulate it and take holy dip into its emerald water with the belief of relinquishing their mind and soul from sins and securing place in heaven after death. People also visit Mansarovar to perform religious death rituals called Shraddha with the hope of providing liberation to the soul of deceased ancestors. Ancient Hindu scriptures indicate this Lake as a must-visit place for those who want to attain ultimate Salvation: Mokshya Many others also come to take a bath in the Lake with a belief that it will keep them youthful and strong forever.

Oxygen is less at higher altitudes. The inclement weather and high altitude induces certain illness generally not encountered over the plains. Headache, nausea, lassitude, lethargy, breathlessness, general uneasiness [malaise], high irritability, light loss of balance, disorientation, incoherence and insomnia are a few. It is common to all irrespective of the age, sex and physical fitness. Gradual acclimatization is the best answer. Tranquilizers, sleeping dose and strong anti-biotic must be avoided. Some of symptoms indicate that the body mechanism is readjusting to new environments. The best idea is deliberately slow down all the activities and follows the following rules:
