The snow-capped rocky peak-Kailash Parbat (mountain) 6714meters, situated at China’s autonomous region of Tibet is considered a holy abode of supreme Hindu god Shiva and also believed to be a place where founders of Tibetan Buddhism, Jainism and Bonpo religions once meditated and resided. Hindus and Buddhists all over the world also worship this peak as the exact "Centre of the Universe".
For a Hindu, to make the difficult pilgrimage to Kailash and have the Darshan (divine view) of Shiva’s abode is to attain release from the clutches of vices of life. The way to circumambulate Kailash Parvat is very difficult as it is situated at high altitude, people usually suffers from high altitude sickness. Thousands of Hindu, Buddhist, Jains and Bonpo religious people come to visit the sacred mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, every year from around the globe and neighboring country India following the route of Nepal. Tibet, a sacred home to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, is a famous pilgrimage destination for the devotees of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon religions and an epitome of beauty and awe to the rest of the world. Kailash Parvat is also a mother principle to the four prominent rivers of Asia namely, The Brahmaputra, The Indus, The Ganges and The Sutlej.
Manasarovar Lake; Another important pilgrimage destination which falls in the kailash region is Lake Manasarovar (4580m). The name of this holy Lake is derived from Sanskrit language. The word “Manas” means mind or consciousness or the instrument to get enlightenment and “Sarovar” means Lake. Conclusively, it means the Lake of consciousness. As Kailash Parvat it also has held wide religious and deep spiritual influence among both Hindus and Buddhist. Hindu worship is considering the bathing lake of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Whereas Buddhists believe that Lord Buddha meditated at the shore of this Lake and obtained enlightenment. Thus devotes are eager to drink the holy water of this Lake with the hope to obtain knowledge to the fullest. Making round of the Lake and taking a dip in it is believed to be Purge one’s soul from sins and the body from sickness. Ancient legends opine that taking a dip in it helps one attain Moksha (free from the cycle of birth and re-birth in the worldly life) securing place in heaven. This Lake is so gigantic that it takes three full days just to round its circumference. Ancient Hindu scriptures indicate this Lake as a must visit place for someone who wants to attain Salvation:”Mokshya”- the highest level of achievement in Hindu religion.
