Nepalgunj-Simikot-Kailash–Mansarovar Tour 2023

Tibet, an autonomous region of China and a sacred home to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, is a famous pilgrimage destination for the devotees of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon religions and an epitome of beauty and awe to the rest of the world.

The snow-capped rocky peak Mount Kailash 6714m, considered a holy abode of supreme Hindu god Shiva is also believed to be a place where founders of Tibetan Buddhism, Jainism and Bonpo religions once resided. Hindus and Buddhists all over the world also worship this peak as the exact “center of the Universe”.

Below Mt. Kailash lies the most sacred Lake of Hindus - Mansarovar (4580m). This Lake is so gigantic that it takes three full days to just go round its peripheries. One dip into the cold water of this holy Lake is believed to free the soul of all its sins, thus carving a straight path to heaven after death. Ancient Hindu scriptures indicate this Lake as a must visit place for someone who wants to attain salvation - the highest level of achievement in Hindu religion.

You can fly from Kathmandu to Simikot via Nepalgunj in western part of Nepal. One night spend in Nepalgunj and next day fly to Simikot and you start trek from Simikot to Hilsa. The trek route leads through a magnificent mountain area, hills, Villages of the Thakuri, along rivers and across the Nara La pass. Nara La pass is height of 4580m. and from here you can see the Tibetan plateau. After 7 days trekking from Simikot to reach Hilasa, It is Nepal side boarder line and next day cross the Karnali River and get other side in Taklakot. Geographically you are directly south of Kailash which are Hindus and Buddhists views as the Center of the World.

Tirthapuri Holy Place (Bhasmasur Parbat) 
Tirthpuri is considered the third most holy pilgrimage site on west Tibet. An important finale to a Kailash Kora, It is an area strongly associated with Padmasambhava as well as Events from the lives of numerous Buddha’s and bodhisattvas. Within the temple is a cave where Padmasambhava meditated.  Thirthpuri is situated on the right bank of the Satlej River, 70 KM west of Mount Kailash. The circumambulation of Tirthpuri takes about 1 hour. Both Hindus and Buddhists make obligatory stops here and the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash is considered unfinished if this site is not visited.

Astapad:
Astapad is another holy mountain near Mount Kailash it lays in front of Nandi Mountain. Astapad Means Mountain of eight steps, many saints, Rishi’s, Monks, has use caves at Aspad Mountain for meditation. Nepalgunj - Simikot to Kailash – Mansarovar Lake Tour

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj by flight and transfer to hotel. Overnight at the local hotel

Day 03: Fly from Nepalgunj to Simikot (2,856m.) and Trek to Majgaon (2,400m.), Walking takes approximately 4 hours... The flight Nepalgunj to Simikot takes 45 minutes, which goes over Western Terai of Nepal, The Mahabharata hills, Bheri river valley as well as the Karnali River. Group / travelers arrive in Simikot, the group will meet the Nepali guide and Sherpa staff & start trekking to Majgaon. The trail climbs to the Simikot Lagna in about 2 hours, and then starts to descent steeply into the Karnali gorge. Camp is made under some walnut trees by long tea house or nearby on the opened ground.

Day 04: Trek to Danda Karmi (2550m.) Hike up to the upper Karnali river valley, past the Toling and Dharapani village and several beautiful waterfalls, gradually ascending towards Karmi village. Walking takes 6/7 hours... Camp site is suggested on the open field at Danda Karmi.

Day 05: Trek to Yalbang Chaur (2,700m). Karmi is the first village that you will be passing; this village is inhabited by upper Humla people of Tibetan Sect. Afterwards, contour up the valley only to descend rather steeply to the Sali Khola with its beautiful stream flowing through the forest. Walking takes 6-7 hours. Camp is made a little further where there is a wide open meadow by beside the River; the meadow is called the Yalbang Chaur.

Day 06: Trek to Tumkot Khola (2800m.). Climb gradually to the village of Yalbang. From here the upper trail passes through Toothpaling monastery, while the lower one leads directly to the village of Yankhar. Another 3 hours of hiking around the bend of the Karnali brings to the bridge below Muchu. From Muchu the trail drops gently to the stream below reaching the settlement of Tumkot. Walking takes 6-7 hours. Camp is suggested by the stream side at the bottom of the valley.

Day 07: Trek to Yari (3,450m.). After crossing a wooden bridge over Tumkot Khola, You veer of the Karnali gorge towards Yari village and the Nara La Pass; the trail will lead into Tibet. The trail climbs steadily up the Mountain side to a distant Yari. Yari is the last Nepali village, before heading towards Nara La. Walking takes 5-6 hours... Camp can be made by the stream side near the last group of houses at Yari.

Day 08: Trek to over Nara La Pass (4,325m.) to Sher (3,600m.) in Tibet. It will take 3 to 4 hours to cross the Nara La Pass from Yari. The Nara La Pass is marked by a seep of stones; travelers have put there crowned by many flag poles & strings of colorful prayer flags. The descent to meet the Karnali once again is steep. Precipitous & narrow winding & following the ridges to drop giddily to the river far down below. Walking takes 7-8 hours. Camp is made on the banks of the Karnali on a flat area near the bridge.

Day 09: Trek to Kocher / Purang (3,600m.) Bus/Van/Hiace drive to Taklakot (3,500m.). After breakfast, you will start your trek, passing through a village of Sher, the first Tibetan village that you come across along the trail. The gravel trail continues, twisting & bending finally reaching the village of Kocher. Here, you will see the famous Gompa of Khojarnath and at Kocher, only an arranged transport will be waiting for all. After boarding the bus or a lorry take a ride to Taklakot (also known) as Purang or Burang ride may last for an hour. Walking time taken to reach Kocher is approximately about 2 hours. Overnight at Purang Guest House. 

Day 10: Jeep / Van / Hiace drives to Darchen (4,500m.) at the base of Mt. Kailash. From Chiu Gompa, the jeep journey again continues heading north to a village called Darchen. Darchen is a small settlement at the button of the Southern slopes of the holy mountain - Kailash. In the past it was a Drokpa village (Village of the nomads - not a permanent settlement). Now there is mixture of people living here. Their houses are made out of boulders & stone. Drive to reach this place takes about 2 hours. Overnight camp at Darchen.

Day 11: Darchen - Dirapuk: After breakfast, drive to Yamdwar & trek start and after 5 – 6 hours walk and reach to Dirapuk which is 4,890m. In elevation from sea level and overnight in camp or Lodge
 
Day 12: Dirapuk - Zuthulpuk: Early in the morning take breakfast and start Parikrama and pass Dolma La, See Gauri Kund and continues to Zuthulpuk which will take approximately 08 hours. It is 4,790m in elevation and overnight in camp or Lodge. 

Day 13: Zuthulpuk – Darchen – Manasarovar Lake:  Trek to Chongdo and it takes 3 hours easy waking down. Drive to Mansarovar Lake via Darchen. Over night in Lodge / camping. 

Day 14: Mansarovar Lake to Saga by drive and over night in hotel 

Day 15: Drive Saga to Kerung valley and over night in hotel

Day 16: Kerung valley to Kathmandu (Morning take a breakfast and drive to Trishuli Bazaar and Kathmandu)

Day 17: Transfer to airport for final departure
