Saga Dawa Festival from Road 11 June 2025

The Saga Dawa Festival from Road is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the fourth Tibetan lunar month. It is the most important religious festival of Tibet. Everyone is seen reciting prayers and playing holy beads during the festival. Tibet is deeply immersed in a festive and spiritual atmosphere. According to Buddhist literary sources, the Saga Dawa festival is celebrated in honor of Sakyamuni's enlightenment.

This festival is most famous for the replacement of the Tarboche Flagpole, the famous huge pole that stands on the way to Kailash. Every year, a new pole is erected in its place. All people in Tibet flock to the place to observe the pole replacing festival and to attach their prayer flags to it. The event is watched by both Tibetans and foreigners with wonder and awe. Tibetans believe that an upright flagpole brings bad luck to their country. The event is guided and ritually instructed by a Lama (a Buddhist teacher). Tibetans are encouraged to visit Tibet during Saga Dawa and join the festivals. Attending the festival is a great way to learn about Tibetan culture and life. Don't miss the opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime.
